Edo Govt Orders Process to Replace Dethroned Okuopkelagbe

The Edo State government has officially commenced the process to replace the dethroned Okuopkelagbe, the traditional ruler of a prominent kingdom in the state, following his recent removal over alleged misconduct.

The dethronement, which has stirred significant reactions within the community, came after a series of consultations with local chiefs, elders, and key stakeholders, who accused the former monarch of actions deemed unbecoming of his esteemed position.

In a statement released on Monday, the Edo State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs confirmed that the process to select a new Okuopkelagbe is now underway, urging the affected community to remain calm and cooperate fully as the succession process unfolds.

“The government is committed to ensuring that the traditional institution remains a symbol of integrity, unity, and progress. We call on all stakeholders to support this transition for the peace and stability of the kingdom,” the statement read.

Sources close to the palace hinted that the race for the throne is already heating up, with several influential families reportedly positioning themselves to produce the next monarch.

As the community braces for a new chapter, many are hopeful that the eventual successor will restore dignity and respect to the throne, ensuring a prosperous future for the kingdom.
